My tip: You should submit more art, your pics look awesome. With 4 pieces you become eligible to be scouted and when you are scouted by another user your art appears in the art portal.

In short, it's a decent site, good gaming - but art and music are a bit under-scored.
DeviantArt.com is really the site for your quality of work. I am a user there myself, so I can say that honestly.
Stay off the forums. Seriously.
Music to listen too: Reasoner and Hania
Flash games and films are a matter of taste, but there is real art here, under the oddities.
You have fantastic art. Keep it up.

First thing first... FAN-Tastic artwork your making... i tend to lurk the artportal most days to see the newest and greatest artwork the people of newgrounds has to offer... i hope you dont use newground as a staging point to post your artwork from DA and do no use any other of its features such as the art fourm, its daily update of users games/flashes and what nots, along with fun competions to take part in from drawing, carlving, writing and making games... im sure you will get used to things if you hang around alot...
Tip one: if you want to level up your account so you get cooler icons, head over to the flash portal... watch a few moives, play a few games... and rate them from 0 to 5 and if you do that five times you get 10 exp... you can only do this once a day
Tip two: Upload artwork in a steady stream... dont bulk load artwork up as only a handfull of users on that day will view it... if you upload one every other day you will get a wider range of people to view your artwork and check out your stuff...
Tip three: head over to the art fourms if you have any questions about artwork... or how to improve... or even start your own art thread... but you already did that one :3...
Pro tip: enjoy your time here :D

i don't really have any tips since i mainly use this site as a time-waster, but when i noticed your "lady in the water" work on the front page, i had to check out the rest of your work. i just love all of these. i really enjoy the colors, and your use of the female form. they're all haunting in different and beautiful ways. very nice work. i can't wait to see what you come up with next :D

Being Frontpaged 4 days after joining the site and getting scouted not long after is quite an accomplishment on itself soooooo I'd say you're going around preeeeeeeeetty well.
What program do you use for your paintings?
I first start off with doing a sketch in photoshop, then when the lineart is done I switch to painter, when everything is painted I switch back to photoshop to add final touches and some textures.
